Item Design and Development of Areca-Nut Tree Climbing and Harvesting Machine(NHCE, 2026) Dhyaan D N -1NH22ME017 Surya P -1NH23ME403 Abhay Pratap Singh-1NH22ME001This project presents the design, fabrication, and evaluation of a prototype Areca-Nut Tree Climbing and Harvesting Machine developed to reduce reliance on skilled climbers and improve harvesting safety. The system integrates a mild-steel frame, rubber-coated traction wheels, springloaded gripping arms, and a remotely controlled cutting mechanism. The objective is to create a low-cost electromechanical solution capable of climbing slender vertical surfaces and performing harvesting operations without human ascent. Prototype testing was conducted on a 5 ft 6-inch vertical pipe to simulate basic climbing conditions. The results demonstrated stable gripping, smooth upward and downward movement, consistent motor performance, and reliable remote-control operation. The cutter mechanism exhibited steady rotation with minimal vibration, indicating compatibility for future real-tree harvesting applications. Although the system has not yet been tested on actual areca trees, the controlled indoor trials validated the core mechanical and electrical design principles.
