Item Root Cause Analysis of Non Linear Gear Box Assembly of Hawk Mk-132(2016-07-21T06:38:20Z) Ashray S, Kumar; Prakash, N; Punith, P; Rakshith, K SThe project work entitled “Root Cause Analysis of Non-Linear Gear Box (NLG) Assembly of Hawk MK-132” aircraft. Gear box assembly is one of the precision mechanical assembly which is used in the control surface. The pitching of the aircraft controlled by tail plane which moves based on the motion of Non-Linear gear box. The present work aims to carry out the root cause analysis of Non-Linear gear box to find the solution for the following problems which are encountered in the final assembly. 1. The force required to operate the tail plane exceeds 0.78 lbs. (0.3538 Kg) but it should be within 0.78 lbs. (0.3538 Kg). 2. The tail plane should move 7 ½ ° up 16 ° down but it was noticed that there was slight deviation. Detail study of the assembly of gear box has been carried out. The detail components has been modelled by using CATIA V5 R20 and then assembled. Simulation has been done to correlate the tolerances prescribed in the drawing. The project work has been extended to conduct rejection analysis from the past one year data of all the detail components of gear box assembly. Finally the aerodynamic performance of the aircraft with respect to pitching movement has been checked.
