In capital market mutual funds are prominent investment options for investors across the globe. There are different types of mutual funds prevailing in the market which broadly can be classified into Equity, Debt and Balanced mutual fund. A mutual fund with certain terms and conditions like lock in period, income tax benefits etc. is known as ELSS or equity linked savings scheme. ELSS is one of the most popular investments wherein investors enjoy both the benefits of capital appreciation, as well as tax benefits. As equity markets are turning positive, investments in ELSS have increased. An ELSS is a diversified equity mutual fund whose major corpus is invested in equities. Since ELSS returns funds reflect as returns from the SENSEX. ELSS is available in market with a lock in period and has income tax benefits. It is suitable for who can bear high risk as returns in ELSS fluctuate depending upon the SENSEX and there are no fixed returns. ELSS schemes are open ended, i.e., investors can subscribe to the fund on any day. NAV (Net Asset Value) or the price of the fund is declared on every business day.
