Item Strength and Behavior of Cocrete Using Foundry Sand and Dust(2017-08-16T11:36:47Z) Sachin, Gowda G; Gururajashekar, H; Manoj, YMetal foundries use large amount of sand as part of the metal casting process. Foundries successfully recycle and reuse the sand many times in casting process. When the sand can no longer be used in the foundry,it is removed from the foundry and is termed as “Foundry Waste Sand”. Like many waste products, foundry sand has beneficial application to other industries. Foundry sand consists primarily of silica sand, coated with thin film of burnt carbon, residual binder (Bentonite,sea coal, resins) and dust. Foundry sand and dust can be used in concrete to improve its strength and other durability factors.Foundry dust can be used as partial replacement of cement & foundry sand as partial replacement of fine aggregate or total replacement of fine aggregate and as supplementary addition to achieve different properties of concrete. In the present work,experimental investigation were performed to evaluate the comparative study of the properties of fresh & hardened concrete containg ferrous & non ferrous foundry waste sand as fine aggregate replacement. Fine aggregate were replaced with four percentage of foundry sand. The percentage of replacements were 0,33,66 & 100% by weight of fine aggregate & the percentage of replacement of cement by foundry dust were 0,5,10 & 15% respectively. Tests were performed for all replacement levels of foundry sand for M20 grade concrete at different curing periods (3, 7 & 28 days) KEYWORDS: Bentonite Clay, Ferrous and non ferrous.
