Item Experimental Study on Light Weight Aggregate Concrete(2019-06-19T10:24:09Z) ABDUL REHMAN, KHAN; SANJAY KUMAR, CHAUDHARY; SANJIT KUMAR, PANDIT; SHAIK MOHAMMED, ULHAQThe coarse aggregate acts as the strength and weight giving component in concrete. Concerns about the depletion of Natural Coarse Aggregate (NCA) and increase in self-weight of building with height, have led to the adoption of several alternatives. One such alternative is Lightweight Coarse Aggregates (LWA) that decrease the unit weight of concrete, thereby reducing the structural load on the building. Light weight concrete is defined as the concrete of substantially lower unit weight than that made from gravel or crushed stone. Density of this concrete is considerably low (300 kg/m3 to 1850 kg/m3) when compared to normal concrete (2200kg/m3 to 2600kg/m3). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the density (unit weight), Finding the optimum mix by replacement of natural coarse aggregate with lightweight aggregate of LWC mixtures with different percentages to achieve a better understanding of the LWC properties that are essential for long-lasting and cost-effective structures. The scope of the study was limited to LWC mixtures having light weight aggregates prepared and tested in the laboratory. In this work, a study will be conducted to replace NCA by fly ash based LWA in Normal concrete of grade M 30. An experimental investigation on mechanical properties will be conducted and the optimum mix will be found out based on the mechanical properties. Usage of light weight aggregate can cause a decrease in strength. So the second phase will be strength improvement of the optimum mix by replacing cement in different percentages between 2-5 % with mineral admixtures like fly ash and GGBS.
