Characterization and Microstructure Evaluation of Cu-Ni-Zn Alloys
    (2020-09-16T12:00:28Z) Akash, B G; Hariprasad, T S; Naresh, R; Shivukumara, B
During this investigation, alloy of Cu, Ni, & Zn was prepared with 22%Ni & 8%Zn as alloying elements. Sand casting is used to prepare the alloy with the help coke furnace & silicon carbide crucible for melting and pouring the metal. Specimens were prepared as per ASTM standards. Hardening heat treatment was done to access their influence on the microstructure, strength and hardness. Prepared specimens were heat treated at 500oC for 60 min respectively. The heat-treated samples were subjected to air quenching in order to bring them to ambient temperature. Microstructural studies were also carried out after heat treatment. Tensile strength, hardness and Compression strength of the samples were measured for both untreated and heat-treated samples. The hardness of the alloy is expected to increase after the treatment compared to the cast one. Optimization was done based on the best combination of ductility, hardness, compression & microstructural homogeneity attained by samples during the heat treatment.
