Item DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF HUMAN ARM EXOSKELETON TO ACHIEVE EASE OF MOVEMENT(2019-07-08T10:37:43Z) Ram Kumar P; Robin Richard F; Satish Badiger; Vijay Surya VHands are two of the vital parts in the human body. Their natural motor capabilities are crucial for activities of daily living. They offer an extensive variation of functions. Although, there are neuromuscular disorder or aging that may lead to losing or weakening of hand functions. Worldwide, stroke remains a leading cause of physical impairments and functional disability. Hence, we make use various methods to enhance the movement of the upper limbs. We in the recent past have seen many inventions and innovations that have been engineered to support the movements of the human body. Such products have changed the people’s way of looking at physical disabilities and disorders. Many of these technologies have practically enabled people in improving their physical state. In our project we use Pneumatic pistons to help with the movements of the joints in our arm. We will make use of one double acting Pneumatic piston to help pivot the elbow joint. Pneumatic cylinders are operated by an air compressor. In addition to the elbow movement we have attached a gripper which can be used to hold objects. The gripper is operated with the help of a servo motor. The servo motor is programmed using Arduino board. Mini switches are provided to operate the gripper. These mechanisms help the patients motor movements get better and improve their nervous response. The current model made is powered by a compressor with low pressure outlet. In future works, the model can be used as a reference to make exoskeletons much lighter. The projects carried out in the future can also have greater load bearing capacity to not only help with the rehabilitation of patients with neuromuscular disorders but also help in assisting human beings in carrying heavy loads in construction fields, mining, and defence. To achieve higher load bearing capacity, the pneumatic compressor used needs to generate high amounts of pressure. The models made in the future can also be completely portable. Pivoting movement in the elbow joint was achieved with the help of pneumatic piston. The pneumatic piston is powered by a compressor, power supply and solenoid valve to produce extension and retraction. The arm underwent mechanical movement causing the muscles to flex and extend. The double acting piston cylinder arrangement contains flow control valves on both the ports to regulate
