Design and Development of Maglev Wind Turbines
    (NHCE, 2026) S. Vaishnavi -1NH22ME047 G. Brinda-1NH22ME021
Wind energy is one of the most promising and clean renewable energy sources available today. However, conventional wind turbines face performance challenges, especially in low-wind regions, due to mechanical friction in bearings and the high torque required to initiate rotation. These issues lead to energy losses, frequent maintenance, and limited efficiency, especially under sub-optimal wind conditions. This project proposes a novel approach by integrating magnetic levitation (Maglev) technology into a wind turbine system. By suspending the rotating components using magnetic repulsion forces—specifically with the help of neodymium magnets—the system achieves frictionless rotation, resulting in lower startup wind speeds and significantly reduced wear and tear.
