The diesel engine is an attractive power unit used widely in many fields, for its great advantages over petrol engines such as lower fuel consumption, lower carbon monoxide emissions, better torque characteristics and higher reliability. However, they are among the main contributors to air pollutions for the large amount of emissions, especially particulates and nitrogen oxides (NOx). How to control these emissions is one of the most important aspects of modern air quality management.
