Item Ducted Smart Highway Turbine with Condition Monitoring(2018-06-22T09:39:11Z) Abishek, Kalaiselvan; Arun Kumar, N; Hithesh, D V; Kenneth, MirandaIn the recent era, research and development activities in the field of renewable energy especially wind and solar have been considerably increased. Due to the worldwide energy crisis and high global emission. The savonius wind turbine consists of a common vertical axis wind turbine which has two vertical half cylinders mounted on a rod and can generate power under poor wind conditions. With the aim of integrating wind energy and solar energy to produce a better energy output, the experiment will be set up in the highway to effectively harness the natural wind energy and solar energy along with the impact wind energy produced by moving vehicles. A duct of suitable dimensions is used to intensify the impact wind produced by the vehicles with in turn improves the effective power generation of the turbine. The use of thermal sensor at the bearing where the turbine shaft and the frame is coupled is used for condition monitoring where it detects the temperature of the bearing and will indicate from the display the temperature which facilitates in knowing if the bearing is overheating due to excessive speed and can be temporarily stopped to avoid any damage. The choice for this model is to showcase its efficiency in varying wind conditions as compared to the traditional horizontal axis wind turbine and contribute to its steady growing popularity for the purpose of mass utilization in the near future as a reliable source of power generation.
