Non-conventional sources of energy such as solar, wind and geothermal energy are being harnessed to meet the increase in demand and cost. As we live in a tropical region, solar energy is reliable and available in abundance. A solar cooker is a simple device that utilizes the heat energy obtained in form of thermal radiation form sun to cooks the food, boils water and also can be used for sterilizing instruments. Solar cooker has seen its existence as late as 1700ās. Solar cooker has seen its dominance mainly in developing and emerging countries especially in India. In order to overcome the issues with the existing solar cooker technology, we have developed a prototype to elevate the temperature, thereby increasing the heating efficiency within the cooking chamber. Cooking chamber is enclose within a glass box expect for the side available to be opened to place food/water inside the container. The glass box and cooking chamber are well sealed so as to not allow the carbon dioxide into the cooking space. A small opening is provide in the glass box fitted with a cork, which acts as an inlet and outlet port to allow the space within the glass box to be filled with carbon dioxide. Cooking takes place in a solar box cooker based on the principle, the black absorbing material coated inside the walls of the cooking chamber absorbs direct thermal radiation from the sun converting it to heat energy. In general, sunlight both direct and reflected enters the solar box through the glass, the entered light is scattered by the green house gases mainly water vapour present within the container whoās wavelength increases. It turns to heat energy when it is absorbed by the dark absorber plate and cooking pots. This heat input causes the temperature inside of the solar box cooker to rise until the heat loss of the cooker is equal to the solar heat gain. Temperature obtained is sufficient to cook food and pasteurize water.Item CFD Analysis Of Di Combustion Chamber Of Diesel Engine To Improve The Performance By Its Different Piston Crown Geometries.(2015-12-23T14:10:21Z) Darshit, Bhatti; Dwaipayan, Adak; Chinthan, Patel; Nagaraj, KuntojiThis project investigates Experimental analysis of different piston bowl geometries of DI Combustion chamber of Single cylinder diesel engine. Rice husk is used as an additive along with raw materials such as Kyanite and Bikaner clay. The use of rice husk decreases the Thermal Conductivity of the brick thereby increasing its application in high temperature refractories. When the rice husk burns, it opens the pores in the insulation brick. Thus, the apparent porosity of the insulation brick increases with addition of rice husk. Also the mass of the bricks reduces. Therefore the Bulk Density decreases. The Cold Compression Strength reduces as the porosity of the bricks increases. This is due to the inability of the brick to withstand a greater load at higher temperature. The Permanent Linear Change of the insulation brick reduces. Insulation bricks usually shrink when heated. By adding rice husk in adequate proportions, the shrinkage is seen to considerably lessened. The Pyrometric Cone Equivalent is a test done to check the temperature at which the material softens. Therefore it determines the softening temperature of the material. The higher the Pyrometric cone equivalent value, the better is the heat resistance offered by the material. Finally, the Thermal conductivity of the material reduces. This increases the insulation property of the brick which makes it suitable to be used in high temperature applications.Item Design And Analysis Of Trajectory Rig For Store Separation Studies(2015-12-23T07:13:49Z) Akshath R, Gowda; Charan, S; Kushal J, C; Somashekar, MaralabhavThe release of āstoresā like drop tanks, bombs, missiles, etc. from an aircraft can be complex, hence the safety of aircraft and pilot being very important, accurate predictions when the store is released from the aircraft and to ensure this, wind tunnel tests has to be carried out. The purpose of a welding fixture is to hold the parts to be welded in the proper relationship both before and after welding. The pipe assemblies are widely used in engine systems and pressurization units of the aircraft. The application of these pipes are to carry fuel, oil, coolant, oxygen and hydraulic lines. As the pipe structure is designed to attain high strength to weight ratio, the pipe sections are thin. Thin pipes & bracket elements are susceptible for weld distortions. These elements have to be located & clamped properly, so that the distortions due to clamping as well as welding should be minimal. For such high quality welding, with interchangeability, repeatability and reliability, the design of fixture becomes critical. During welding there exists high thermal stresses on the component and the fixture should have enough provisions to arrest or minimize the weld distortions. The fixtures have to address all the functional requirements and also should be realized at economical prices. These fixtures will be used for batch production of the airworthy weld quality pipe structures. All the modelling & drafting of the welding fixtures is carried out using UNIGRAPHICS NX8. The thermal analysis and stress analysis is carried out using NX NASTRANItem Design And Development Of A Robot End Effector Based On Tactile Sensor(2015-12-22T13:20:50Z) Amith, Kumar; Atul, Kishan; Riju, Krishna; Season M, GeorgeA variety of sensors are being used for robots, such as vision type sensors and tactile type sensors. While computer vision is often employed to recognize the object shape with the position and orientation, tactile sensing is an essential ability for a robot to handle an object. The tactile sensor attached on the robot can sense the object surface, even when the robot vision cannot get the clear surface image. In bilateral teleportation, information is transmitted not only from the master to the slave but also from the slave to the master. Therefore the operator on the master side can feel tactile sensation from the slave side as well. In this project an attempt has been made to design and develop a tactile sensor system for a robot manipulator and an active sensing technique to realize an object recognitions concerning object shape and object edge tracing . The proposed tactile sensor units consist of three thin sheets of force āsensitive resistors arranged triangularly with the peripheral circuits. The fabricated sensing devices are āFlexi-Force,ā which are a sort of the force-sensitive resistor produced by Tekscan. This sensing device is made of thin polyester film with 0.127-mm thickness. The active-sensing area is 9.53mm in diameter. The device is capable of sensing forces between 0 and 4.4 N. Once the robot arm moves near the object, the end effector senses source object and its edge physically and generates a signal to micro controller, which intern microcontroller processes the data which is passed from the end effector. After the data processing of the micro controller completed, it generates a signal to the LCD unit which intern produces final object edge detection result.Item Design And Development Of A Thermal Platform For Printing Fused Deposition Modeling Components(2015-12-22T11:18:59Z) Vishnu, Vijayan; Sirajudheen, Khan; Sudeep, Suresh; Nithin, MohanFused Deposition Modeling (FDM) represents one from basic Rapid Prototyping (RP) methods used in industrial practice. In this contribution are presented basic information about common and advanced materials used for realization of products by Fused Deposition Modeling rapid prototyping technology application. In basic Rapid Prototyping devices the initial state of material can come in either solid, liquid or powder state. In solid state material can be in form pellets, wire or laminates. The current range materials include paper, nylon, wax, resins, metals and ceramics. Directly in FDM technology are used as basic material Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, polyamide, polycarbonate, polyethylene and polypropylene. In special FDM applications can be used silicon nitrate, aluminium oxide, hydroxypatite and stainless steel for a variety of structural, electro ceramic and bio ceramic applications. In final part of the article is described design and production of experimental gearbox realized on workplace of the authors. Fused deposition modeling (FDM),as one of the additive manufacturing (AM) technique, has been widely used in the manufacturing industries from the 1990ās. It is relatively cheaper than other AM methods and there are other advantages such as being able to process a variety of other polymer. Currently, FDM is more likely to be suitable for direct production of the terminal-use parts, in some cases challenging traditional process such as injection molding. Research evidence indicates that change of road and layer structure would have significant influence on the meso-structure and thus impact the mechanical properties of the resulting polymer parts. Adaptive flat layer deposition and curved layer deposition have been introduced to improve the mechanical properties of terminal-use product. It is necessary that an appropriate deposition scheme is essential to ensure the best inter-road and inter-layer connectivity. Un interrupted are likely to result in a continuous network of polymer chains, as in the case of the conventional processes. The current research proposes conventional flat layer deposition, adaptive flat layer deposition and curved layer deposition for FDM. In particular for curved parts, curved layer deposition in expected to ensure fiber continuity and better meso-structure. Mathematical models are developed for curved slicing, practically implemented to print physical parts and test result suggests marked improvement in the mechanical characteristics of curved part. This is done by reducing the set up time and manual fatigue. Thus quality production can be achieved by the use of effective utilization of resources. For large scale production of different materials a lot of time is wasted in set up of the device and clamping the device. For machining operations that cannot be performed on CNC, manual labour is required. Trial and error method is usually practiced for components which are done manually until the axis of the hole is properly aligned with the axis of the drill. In such a situation a lot of time is being wasted to maintain the accuracy. Eventually it increases the operatorās fatigue. Thus drill jig increases productivity by eliminating individual positioning, marking and frequent checking. The main advantage of the jigs is interchangeability. The need of selective assembly is eliminated. The parts of the jig will fit properly and in the assembly and all similar components are interchangeable. Also a jig reduces the repetitive nature required for drilling holes, because the locating, clamping and guiding of the tool is done by the jig itself. The tool guiding element is used whose chief work is to guide the tool in to the correct position. Hence the requirement of skilled labourer is eliminated. The project study is about a designing and evaluating of drill jig for manual drilling of holes in Integral Fuel Floor. Three designs were draw and compared in terms of accuracy, precision and also the strength of the jigs to select the best design. This report begins with an introduction of Integral Fuel Floor, a class one component in which the holes are to be made using jigs. Designs were evaluated in terms of stability and accuracy. Three new jigs were designed using Solid Works software. Considering the advantages of jigs and fixtures, a fixture was designed to cater to the needs. Increasing the efficiency and accuracy are the two basic aims of production.Item Design And Fabrication Of Hybrid Silencer(2015-12-23T12:19:28Z) Jitendra, Singh; Nachappa, KS; Ravi Rnajan, Kumar; Syed Abdul, NadeemAir pollution is most important from the public health of view, because every individual person breaths approximately 22000 time a day, inhaling about 15 to 22 kg of air daily. Polluted air causes physical ill effect decides undesirable aesthetic and physiological effects. Air pollution can be defined as addition to our atmosphere of any material, which will have a dexterous effect on life upon our planet. The main pollutants contribute by automobile are carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbon (UBHC), oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and Lead. Automobiles are not the only sources of air pollution, other sources such as electric power generating stations, industrial and domestic fuel consumption, refuse burning, industrial processing etc. also contribute heavily to contamination of our environment so it is imperative that serious attempts should be made to conserve of our environment from degradation. A hybrid Silencer is an attempt in this direction. It is mainly dealing with control of emission and noise. A hybrid Silencer is fitted to the exhaust pipe of engine. Because we use activated charcoal in this silencer and hence its name HYBRID SILENCER. The noise and smoke level is considerable less than the conventional silencer, it is cheaper, no need of catalytic converter and easy to install.Item Design And Fabrication Of Pneumatic Hammer(2015-12-23T13:01:40Z) Rajesh Kumar, Singh; Raghav, Phaiju; Kabindra Kumar, Sah; Sudip, AdhikariHere we have fabricated the pneumatic forging machine, it's a new innovative concept. Forging is the term for shaping metal by using localized compressive forces. Cold forging is done at room temperature or near room temperature. Hot forging is done at a high temperature, which makes metal easier to shape and less likely to fracture. Warm forging is done at intermediate temperature between room temperature and hot forging temperatures. This machine has been mainly developed for metal forming to the required shape and size. In this machine we have using the pneumatic cylinder for forging the specimen. Pneumatic is air operated device. By doing the manual process it consumes more time and large amount of man power required for forging. By using this machine we can save the time and man power requirement in the industries.Item Design And Static Analysis Of Go Kart Chassis(2015-12-23T13:15:07Z) Sachin, S; Sai Kirthan, Rao; Pradeep, BThe purpose of this project is to design, model and analyse a Go- kart chassis which is rigid enough to withstand various loads during static and dynamic conditions with good performance characteristics. The Go- kart is a recreational vehicle which is used for racing. It is a low level 4 wheeled racing purpose vehicles driven by racing enthusiasts. It is driven by people of all ages and there is no restriction for age as in other racing sports like Formula one. Go- Kart is a vehicle with no suspension and less ground clearance. It was introduced in India in 2003 by MRF. One of the fundamental parts of Go-kart is the chassis. The chassis houses different parts of the go-kart. The design of the chassis has different steps which includes, the theoretical calculation i.e. determining the centre of gravity for the required track width and wheel base. Various chassis is modeled and comparative analysis is done for different conditions such as static loading, front impact, rear impact, side impact and material analysis. The analysis is performed to each and every chassis that are modeled. Based on the analysis results, the chassis with optimum results is selected. The optimum chassis from analysis is further checked for suitable material and the cross section of the material that is to be used to build the chassis. The main parts of a Go- kart are chassis, engine, steering, transmission, tyres and brakes. For a good performance Go- kart the parts mentioned need to be designed effectively. After design and analysis calculations were performed on steering to obtain the Ackermann steering geometry for effective steering. Out of the six different chassis modeled, the chassis 4 is selected as the optimum model. The material analysis shows that the material suitable for the chassis is steel since it has least deformation value. Also from the weight aspect the circular cross section has been chosen over the square cross section as the former is lighter compared to the latter.Item Design Of 5 Axis Robotic Arm HIV Testing(2015-12-28T14:22:38Z) Imran, SayedThis project is to design and develop a "Robotic Arm for Pick and Placeā application for HIV testing using AURDINO-UNO microcontroller. Unbalance exists in a rotor when the mass centre axis is different to its running centre axis. Practically all newly machined parts are non-symmetrical due to blow holes in castings, parts fitted off-centre, machined diameters eccentric to the bearing locations etc. An unbalanced rotor, when rotating, wants to revolve around its mass centre axis. Because the bearings restrict this movement, the centrifugal force due to the unbalance causes the rotor to vibrate. This vibration causes wear to the bearings, creates unnecessary noise and in extreme cases disintegration of the rotor itself can be experienced. It is therefore necessary to reduce the unbalance to an acceptable limit. The aim of rotor balancing is to achieve satisfactory running when installed on site. To identify the position and amount of unbalance, balancing machines are used to correct any unbalance that exists. To correct the unbalance material removal by drilling is preferred. After measuring the unbalance, the software calculates the depth of cut that the machine must drill in order to compensate the unbalance. The balancing machine indicates the operator how much material to remove from each lobe (claw) of the rotor. The operator does not have to calculate or vector this amount himself. Based on the specifications, the balancing machine will display the amount to be removed from each lobe of the rotor. The main objective of the present work is to develop and implement a mechanism to drill the holes automatically by using limit switches and timer pulley arrangement so that the drill depth is accurate and the operator can successively operate three machines instead of one thereby reducing the cycle time for balancing operation. This increases the production rate, reduces rework and increases the profit to the company. In the current scenario, the operator manually places the rotor on to the drilling machine and adjusts the depth of cut as specified on the balancing machine using the scale provided on the drilling machine operated by a timer pulley arrangement. A hole is drilled on the lobe where unbalance exists and the operator continues the same until the required depth is achieved. Therefore by automating the drilling operation, an accurate drilling is obtained in addition to the benefits of reduced rework and cycle time for each operation, which ultimately leads to an increase in the production rate.Item Dynamic Analysis Of Go Kart Chassis(2015-12-23T13:05:14Z) Rakshath, Kulkarni; Rakshith, MC; Sujith, RGo-kart is recreational vehicles which are used for racing and entertainment purpose. Go kart is a small four wheeled vehicle with no suspension and low ground clearance. Go-karts come in all shapes and forms, which are light weight and propelled by small engines to reach high speeds. Go-kart has become more and more popular sport in present days. Go- karting is one of the safest, cheapest and best avenue into motorsports for racing enthusiast. The aim of this project is to design and perform dynamic analysis such as front impact, side impact, rear impact, modal analysis and crash test on go-kart chassis. The chassis should be able to withstand dynamic loading condition. In the present study, in order to arrive at a full functional go-kart there are various stages among which we are concentrating on the dynamic Analysis of the backbone of Go-kart that is the chassis. The performance of a Go-kart depends a lot on the chassis design. A good chassis needs to be able to flex and twist. The design of the chassis has its own sub steps like the theoretical calculation and the data acquired by reverse engineering from the industrial chassis and arrive at various designs. The next step after design is to determine which material to be used. The dynamic analysis is done for best chassis as obtained from static results. Dynamic analysis includes front impact, side impact, rear impact, modal and crash analysis. The best optimum chassis from analysis is further checked for the availability of the raw material and the cost of the build is determined. As the dynamic results are obtained and analyzed, fabrication is carried out. The dynamic analysis of go- kart chassis is carried using ANSYS 14 software. The maximum deformation and stress which act on the chassis in all the dynamic analysis is well under the maximum allowable stress of mild steel and has achieved desirable factor of safety as well.
