| dc.description.abstract | The basic principle of lean line manufacturing has its origins from Toyota, Japan. Lean manufacturing involves the concept of reducing the amount of rejections and rework to increase the production efficiency. It also incorporates the concepts of just-in-time manufacturing, standardization, improvement in strategies, continual assessment and improvement of facilities. In a hybrid assembly line, the one which incorporates both automation and manual interventions, the manual worker can stop the assembly line whenever there is an interruption or failure, in order to fix it. Under such situations it becomes a necessity to optimise the process to reduce both the production time and the rate of rejections. Interruption in the workplace are not new in today’s world, however there are more possible ways to stop them. So, we conducted a set of experiments, measuring interruptions in the assembly auto line of BOSCH spark plug at Naganathpura plant Bangalore and we came out with some possible ways to minimize few of them. The studyin this project work includes methods to analyse and re-design the existing system, providing a set of lean line manufacturing concept and methods to locate and rectify the issues that causes interruptions. Requirement for any changes can be determined utilising the lean manufacturing concepts to study the assembly flow line. The source of issue are also analysed and possible modifications in design are suggested. | en_US |
