dc.description.abstractIn the field of agricul ture, use of proper methods of i r rigat ion plays an important role for the economy and development of a country. In the convent ional ir rigat ion system, the farmer has to keep watch on ir rigat ion t imetable, which is different for dif ferent crops. This work makes the irrigat ion automated. Wi th the use of low cost sensors and the simple ci rcui try this work aims low cost product , which can be bought even by a poor farmer. This work is best sui t for places where water is scarce and has to be used in l imi ted quant i ty. Also, the thi rd world countr ies can af ford this simple and low cost solut ion for i r rigat ion and obtain good yield on crops. PIC control ler has been used in this project . A 16x4 LCD is connected to the microcont rol ler, which displays the soi l moisture level and a relay is provided for swi tching the solenoid valve control l ing the water flow to the field. This project can be used in case of power outage by swi tching to solar power.en_US
