Underground cables are liable to wide variety of faults that might occur due to improper underground conditions, wear and tear, rats, rodents etc. Overcoming these types of faults is difficult and entire cable should be taken outside from the ground to check for the faults and fix them. Cable faults or damage to cables which will affect the resistance of the cable. If allowed to further fault or damage, this can lead to a voltage breakdown. The cable has to be tested first in order to detect any malfunction or fault present in it. In most part urban areas, the electrical cables run undergrounds instead of overhead lines. Whenever a fault occurs in underground cable it is very difficult to detect the accurate location of the fault occurring to process the repairing of that particular cable. In this project a robot will be designed and implemented which will detect the fault in the underground by passing over the cable lines. It stops and indicates the user where the fault is occurred. It uses IR sensors for detecting the fault and buzzer to sound the fault and LCD display is used to display the fault. In today's Engineering Robotics is considered as one of the fastest growing fields. Robots are designed to remove the human factor from labor intensive or dangerous work and also to act in inaccessible environment where human interface is not possible. In this project we are implementing a robot which is capable of moving inside underground pipes and detecting cable faults and cracks in pipelines. Since the area where the cables are present is conjugated, humans cannot reach the cables. So, this robot has been implemented that has a wireless camera, sensors which is used to detect the cable faults or crack and the conditions inside the pipe and it can be also used in oil refineries.en_US
