Abstract
Elastomeric bearings are used in helicopter tail rotor for transfer of control to the blade via
pitch control. These bearings are subjected to complex dynamic load during operation. In
order to check the functionality of these bearings, a specially designed test facility is
necessary. Complex dynamic load should be simulated on this test rig to study the
performance. The existing system is a mechanical closed loop test system consisting of
power pack, manifolds, actuator, controller and data recording system. This project deals
with design and development of suitable closed loop electrical system for simulation of
loads experienced by the bearing. The electrical system consists of motor with drive
controls, sensors and equipments for data recording. This electric motor provides an
oscillatory motion of about ±25˚ at the rate of 50˚ per minute. The present concept
eliminates the extensive maintenance required for the mechanical system. The prototype
model is done by using a stepper motor and an appropriate closed loop computer controlled
system.
