Abstract
It is well known that the Low-Voltage DC (LVDC) distribution system is a promising
topology as a future smart distribution system due to its high efficiency and
reliability. The focus of the paper is on the development trends and the dependencies
of the LVDC distribution system energy efficiency. Future LVDC system will be able
to improve the energy efficiency of distribution networks. Moreover energy efficiency
is depends on components such converters and infrastructures such as energy storage
systems involved in LVDC distribution system, so that more efficient converters and
storage systems are used to make LVDC distribution system more efficient.
Nowadays, with renewable, energy is often produced in DC and then converted to AC
for transmission and distribution purpose. A large majority of electrical and electronic
devices for their functioning needs DC without conversion into AC. The conversion
process involves from DC to AC and then again to DC. This generates some extra
energy losses that could be avoided. A DC grid avoids some conversion steps and
results in lower material costs and higher energy efficiency, reducing conversion
losses. But Some DC to DC conversions would still be required.
