Abstract
Power supply to remote villages of India where agriculture is the main practise has been unreliable for many decades. Even today a vast majority of villages in India receive unreliable power for their agricultural activities. Due to compromised power supply and continued load shedding, the agricultural practises of rural areas has slowed down, often depending upon conventional and traditional practises thereby reducing the yield. Running of motors and pump sets for irrigation have taken a backseat due to unreliable power supply and faulty power systems, this inturn is reducing the per unit profit which the farmer can make due to under-irrigation of crucial crops. In the field of agriculture, use of proper method of irrigation is important because the main reason for lack of yield is the lack of rains & scarcity of land reservoir water. The continuous extraction of water from earth is reducing the water level due to which lot of land is coming slowly in the zones of un-irrigated land. The reduced yield is caused due to the unplanned use of water which leads to a significant waste of water. For this purpose we use intend to design this automatic plant irrigation system. The system we design would derive power from solar energy through photo-voltaic cells. Hence, dependency on erratic commercial power will not be required. India being a tropical country receives good amount of sunshine in most parts all through year. Our objective is to utilize the freely available solar energy to power a motor to pump water for irrigation of crops in a smart and most efficient way, thereby conserving both energy and water which are scares resources in such areas. The working model we intend to design and build would be a closed loop system comprising of sensors to monitor and control the operation of a valve in a motor to control the flow of water. Our project aims to develop a low cost solution to the power problems faced in agricultural fields and to improve irrigational practises by efficient utilization of the power of the sun and water. We intend to design and implement hardware which provides reliable power to the pumping systems of farmers for wise and efficient irrigation.
