Abstract
The main objective of this project is to build a wheelchair that can be controlled by the patient itself. Most of the wheelchairs in the market right now are manually handled by an attendant. Some of the options available in the market are joystick based control which is efficient but not practical for someone with quadriplegia where all of the four limbs are non-functional. So this wheelchair is based on head gesture control where the patient wears a head band and can tilt his head in the required direction and the wheelchair hence moves accordingly.
Here we are going to use an accelerometer to read the head gestures made by the user. The accelerometer is placed in the head band . As soon as the patient moves their head and tilt angle is produced by the accelerometer and the signal information is sent to motor via microcontroller reproducing the required motion in the wheelchair.
