Generation of energy takes places at a resource rich geographical locations and transferred to energy demand centres. These demand points are too far from generating stations and hence there is a need for research and development in how efficiently can the generated power be transferred to distant places for its usage. Its Transmission & Distribution loss accounts for23.65%, the highest and lowest being Korea, 4.10%. India’s economic rise, the demand for energy has grown at an average of 3.6% per annum over the past 30 years. At the end of December 2012, the installed power generation capacity of India stood at 210951.72MW. The total demand for electricity in India is expected to cross 950,000 MW by 2030.In this project, comparative analysis is carried out for power transmission, for 1200km length at 50Hz and50/3Hz. Test system of 765kV and 1200kV are selected as two transmission voltage levels. Simulation is carried out on test system over Matlab Simulink environment. Load at the receiving end is varied from 0% to 150% of Surge Impedance Loading (SIL) in steps of 25%.Also, computation has been carried out for sending & receiving end voltages, active power transfer capacity, power factor and compensation required for 765km line.en_US
