Abstract
With the problems faced in the present conventional electricity billing system,
where, errors due to human involvement in acquiring meter readings and also to
take steps in order to reduce consumption of electricity, we bring out a device which
will give the customers the benefit of controlling his/hers expenditure on electricity
based on a budget.
It also reduces man power employed by the electricity board to a great extent. Also, in
reaching to rural and remote areas with ease.
In practice, we make use of a GSM technology for billing purposes which, takes reading
on real time basis of the units of electricity being used and calculates the price (in
Rupees) of the amount of units of electricity that has been made use of. The information
of this usage is provided to the customer every fortnight via an SMS on his cell phone. A
SIM card loaded into the GSM module will be capable of sending this information to the
customer. The same information will also be shared with the EB (electricity board) via an
SMS with the help of a GSM module that also works on real time basis.
