Abstract
Water and energy are essential elements of humanity’s life and civilization, and hydro
power relates both. Hydro power is the world’s most widely used form of renewable
energy. It produces around 20 percent of the world’s electric power. It allows clean,
sustainable and emission free power production. Hydro power is uniquely flexible, since
in our country the most of the hydro power plants are either manual or under supervisory
control based. It does not provide the efficient safety for the hydro power plant and real-
time data and reports of parameters of power plant. This project is designed to integrate
automation and provide real-time remote operation, analyze and monitoring the parameter
like water level at a hydel power plant. It also provides the safety indications and
alarming system for the plant. This is achieved by placing sensors at different points in
the hydro power plant and using BC-547 Transistor to provide a water level parameter
and also acts as an interface between the sensing arrangements. This system can be
enhanced by integrating GSM technology, by which an SMS is delivered to the concerned
person or chief of power plant, regarding the status of generation and any other required
information. We can also control some of the operations through SMS. It can also be
upgraded with process graphics for prediction and detection of any changes in hydro
power plant.
